Reality or make believe

If we walked around with our habitual beliefs on our clothes, would we be more likely to pay attention to them? If we could see our beliefs on paper, would we be more likely to pay attention to them? What if they were on billboards and newspaper headlines. Would we pay attention then?

I’m wondering because all of us have some beliefs inside of us that is/are holding us back from being happier and fulfilled in our lives. We don’t know it mostly because we do not pay attention to them very much. We think our lives are happening to us and never consider that what we think is what we get. and even if we could see them, read them, or share them…..would we even then pay attention?

If we all knew that our beliefs made us what we are and what we live, surely that would cause us to pay attention……wouldn’t it!

This week, I challenge you to find your beliefs and write them down. They will not be out in the open for you to just copy. They won’t initially come to mind for a quick jot down. You will have to work on this one. Our beliefs are not always visible or obvious. They hide out, they disguise themselves, they pretend to be something else. You will have to dig around to find them all and you probably will not find all of them, but I encourage you to think long and hard to find as many as you can. They will show up as permanent, reality “how it is”, common sense, and even morals/values. They will be guarded, unquestionable, and often generational. An example of a belief that is not serving you can be as simple as “money don’t grow on trees” but it could also look like, “I’m not tall enough” -this is a reality belief and shows up as permanent. Not only have you told yourself this for a long time it’s also been confirmed by others telling you the same. It’s become permanent or nonresistant, your reality. But like many beliefs, this is just another one that is not serving you!

This week lets work on getting rid of some of those beliefs that are not doing you any good. Let’s maybe even replace some of them with a new belief. Beliefs that WILL serve you. Beliefs that will encourage growth and happiness. Beliefs that will have you living a more prosperous life. Beliefs that will give you pickups instead of put downs. Beliefs that will inspire you and result in a more abundant life. For now, let’s work on finding those little buggers and getting rid of them! Once you get the hang of finding them you can then get the hang of removing them and then the hang of replacing them!!! They like to hide! I suggest starting out writing any and all beliefs you can think of on paper. Anything you hold to be true. It might take a while, so get comfy and just start writing. Some will be obvious in holding you back, others will not. I encourage you to write all your beliefs…….even if you have to write the sky is blue. Write it! Take your time, multiple settings, several pages…..keep writing! After a week of working on this writing, you can start looking at all of them to see if they are serving beliefs or if you want to change or just remove them. Have fun with it! You can’t get it wrong!
